Two countries decided to normalize diplomatic relations and to appoint ambassadors.

Prime Minister of Israel Yair Lapid announced on Twitter that Israel and Turkey decided to restore full diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Lapid noted that this decision came after his conversation with President Erdogan, and two countries will return ambassadors. He added that this will contribute to the deepening of bilateral ties between Israel and Turkey and it will strengthen regional stability.

Lapid said the restoration of diplomatic ties are the continuation of the positive direction since President of Israel Isaac Herzog’s state visit to Turkey in March 2022. Herzog also welcomed the renewal of diplomatic relations and asserted that this will encourage greater economic relations, tourism and friendship between the Israeli and Turkish peoples.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu commented on the developments and said that they are not giving up on the Palestinian cause.

Turkey and Israel were long-time regional-allies with Turkey being the first Muslim-majority country to recognize the independence of Israel. Relations deteriorated after the 2010 Mavi Marmara raid conducted by Israeli commandos. Despite an official apology by previous Prime Minister Benjamin Netenyahu, the relations stayed negative.
