An escape attempt by an ISIS cell amid an ongoing security operation in al Hol refugee camp has been thwarted

Two fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were killed in al Hol refugee camp in Northeast Syria as clashes erupted upon an escape attempt by members of the Islamic State (ISIS).

Seven ISIS members, two women and five men disguised as women, tried to flee the camp amid an ongoing security operation carried out by the SDF, and clashes ensued when they refused to surrender, SDF's Press Office reported on Thursday.

While the escape attempt was thwarted, two SDF fighters and one ISIS member were killed in the clashes. Six ISIS members were captured with two AK-47 machine guns and an explosive belt.

The SDF and the internal security forces of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), in cooperation with the US-led Global Coalition, launched "Operation Security and Humanity" late August in al Hol refugee camp to root out ISIS cells. Over a hundred people, suspected to be affiliated with the ISIS, have so far been arrested.

The refugee camp houses close to 60,000, predominantly children and women, who include perpetrators of violence under the Islamic State (ISIS), alongside victims and bystanders.
